Sister Hansen, Elect Lady and wife of our first MPres, was famous for these Orange Rolls. Unless you worked in the Mission Office, you only got these twice – once when you arrived and again when you left the mission field. Happy Day! Sad Day!
Another aside on this subject is that about the time I got to Michigan (Jan ’74), Sister Hansen offered to produce a “Mission Cookbook” to help all the unimaginative Elders & Sisters. By the time all the responses were collected, edited & printed (this was before PC’s with word processing), I had left for home. A thoughtful friend made sure I got my copy of the “Ripliancum Recipes” cookbook and I treasure it to this very day.
Sister Hansen’s Orange Roll recipe is on page 13.
ROLLS
1 package of dry yeast dissolved in 1/ 2 cup warm water.
Add:
1/ 2 cup sour cream
1/ 4 cup sugar
1 teasp salt
2 eggs
1/ 3 cup melted shortening
Blend well and whip in
2 cups flour, gradually adding 1 more cup flour as you knead dough.
Let rise in bowl until double, about 1 1/ 2 hours.
Knead dough on well-floured surface about 15 times.
Divide dough into 2 pieces.
Roll each piece into a 12 inch round.
Brush with melted butter.
Combine 3/ 4 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons grated orange rind.
Spread on dough.
Cut dough into 12 pie-shaped pieces and roll from outside in (crescent roll style).
Allow to rise in warm place until light, about 1 hour.
Bake about 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
GLAZE:
3/ 4 cup sugar
1/ 2 cup sour cream
1 stick butter
2 Tbspn orange concentrate
Boil for 4 minutes.
Spoon over baked rolls.

Anyone interested in the recepie?

Here is the song in its entirety. It is a bit lengthly - so bear with me.
THE MICHIGAN LANSING MISSION SONG
With our Hearts Full of Love,
For the Children of the Lord,
To the People of Michigan
We've Come.
With a Message that's true
Now we've got a job to do,
And we know that our
Work's Never done.
We pledge not to hedge
In the Service of our Lord,
We'll serve Hime with all
Our Strength and Might,
We'll Thrust in our sickle
For now the field is white,
As the Mission goes
Rolling Along.
Up at six, out by nine,
Pray and study all the time,
And the Mission will
Roll right along.
Always strive to do right
Never shirk or shun the fight,
And the Mission will
Roll right along.
A Marvelos work and
A wonder we will do,
In teaching the Gospel
Of our Lord.
We'll Find lost sheeo
And bring them in the fold,
And the Mission will
Roll right along.
Time is short, all to short
For the Task we have to do,
So let's keep on a
Rolling along.
Don't regret or be sorry
For a job we didn't do,
But lets always be
One step ahead.
And when they compare
Our mission with the rest,
And people will ask
Which Mission's Best,
We'll shout with one accord
That as we've served the Lord,
We've made MICHIGAN LANSING MISSION,
THE BEST!
With our hearts full of love,
For the Children of the Lord,
To the People of Michigan
We've come.
With a message that's true
Now we've got a job to do.
And we know that our
Work's never done.
We pledge not to hedge
In the service of our Lord,
We'll serve Him with all
Our strength and might,
We'll Thrust in our sickle
For now the field is white,
As the mission goes
Rolling along.
(Tune: The Caissons Go Rolling Along)

It has been fun to see these messages about the mission song, like many others, that have posted, I have fond memories about singing this song. As I was typing it in, a lot of memories came flooding back - I found it on a copy of a Program that I kept from when Elder and Sister F. Ensio Bushe visited our Mission back on November 13, 1989.
I hope this helps.
Have a great week.

Hi again all...
With due respect to Indiana-Michigan's earlier version from which we copied, here's our "original" 1974 version (sans the "reaping" arm swing) from a Zone Meeting handout still in my possession:
The Michigan Mission Song
(to the tune of The Caissons Go Rolling Along)
With our hearts full of love
For the people of the Lord
to the people of Michigan we've come.
With a message that’s true
Now we’ve got a job to do,
and we know that our work's never done.
We pledge not to hedge
in the service of our Lord,
we'll serve him with all our strength and might.
We'll thrust in our sickle
for now the field is white,
as the mission goes rolling along.
Up at six, out by nine,
pray and study all the time,
and the mission will roll right along.
Always strive to do right
never shirk nor shun the fight,
and the mission will roll right along.
A marvelous work
and wonder we will do
in teaching the gospel of our Lord.
We'll find lost sheep
and bring them in the fold,
and the mission will roll right along.
Time is short, all too short,
for the task we have to do,
so let's keep on a rolling along.
Don't regret or be sorry
for a job we didn't do,
but let's always be one step ahead.
And when they compare
our mission with the rest,
and people will ask which mission's best,
We’ll shout one accord
That as we’ve served the Lord
We’ve made Michigan Mission the best.

Hi everyone...
Since I go WAY back, almost to the dawn of the Mission, it seems that I should mention that OUR mission song was copied almost verbatim from our parent mission, Indiana-Michigan's song. My first companion, Joseph Morgan (Logan UT) told me so and as proof, the text of "their" song can be seen at:
http://www.mission.net/indiana/indianapolis/page.php?pg_id=230
Sure Love Ya'll
(which Ind-Mich ALSO said - check some of their messages)
And does anyone know when our mission STOP saying "SLY?"

I was wondering if someone would take the time to put down the full mission song on a message online. I would do it except that I am at work and my boss probably wouldn't enjoy me spending so much time doing it.
Your friend,

It was fun to think about the old mission song again. It has not been over 13 years since I've sung it. I can remember how timidly I would swing my arm when I first entered the mission. By the time I went home I was "thrusting in my sickle" with gusto! Sorry I don't know the origins of the song but thanks for reminding me of a great memory from my mission!. Hope all are doing well!

From the text I've seen ,
"...With our hearts full of love
For the children of the Lord,
To the people of Michigan we've come;...")
I remember also . . .
"Up by six, out by nine, pray and study all the time, and the mission will keep rolling along . . ."
It goes to the melody of a military song - " . . . .and the casons go rolling along"
I can't remeber the title of the song.
I sounds like the Mission song that Pres. C. Russell pulled togather for the "New" Michigan Lansing Mission.
He served July 73 - July 1976
